Illumination is soliciting submissions for the fall issue!

Illumination is looking for submissions for the fall 2009 issue until October 16th. We are looking for art of any medium, short stories, poetry, and essays. Go to http://illuminationjournal.wordpress.com/submit/ to see the guidelines for each section.

Gallery Night

 Come hear some of the artists who will be featured in this semester’s issue talk about their work. There will also be origami, punch, and salsa. And lots and lots of art!

Submissions closed

Thanks to all who submitted to the spring 2009 issue of Illumination. Submissions are now closed unless you have explicitly spoken with the editor. Submitters will be informed by early April whether their pieces have been accepted or declined.

We will be producing the journal over the next month and a half. Look for us in Madison coffee shops and libraries by mid May.

Open Mic

Join Illumination for our semesterly Open Mic at the Open Book Cafe. Come to the first floor of College Library Tuesday, March 10 from 7-8 p.m. Bring a poem or short prose selection to share–feel free to read original work or work by your  favorite author. Invite your friends; there will be hot chocolate and coffee provided!

Illumination at Chadbourne

Join Illumination at the Rose Writing Workshop next Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 7:00 p.m. and again at the monthly Chadbourne Tea from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27. Hear submitters from past issues read their work and give updates about the projects featured in the journal and learn more about submitting yourself. 

Submissions for the spring 2009 issue are due March 13, so submit today!

Illumination is once again accepting submissions. We accept artwork, prose, poetry and essays from UW-Madison undergraduates. Please read the submit page for more information, and send your work by March 13 to be considered for the spring 2009 issue!

Be sure to look at the art gallery designed by a friend from the UW-Libraries. Congrats to those authors whose work is featured exclusively online.

Also, if you’re interested in getting involved with the journal next semester as a staff member, we have a limited number of openings on our staff. Please apply (more information on the About page) by late January, especially if you’re interested in a position as a layout assistant or web editor. Illumination Released

Congratulations to submitters and staff. The new issue of Illumination has been released and will be available at libraries and bookstores in the Madison area. A complete list of distribution locations will be posted soon.

Also, watch for a link to the online version of the journal, which will feature a gorgeous art gallery and three additional poems not featured in the print version.

Please join us to celebrate another semester complete at our release party this Friday 12/12 at 5:00 in the Main Lounge at the Memorial Union, 800 Langdon St., Madison, WI. There will be appetizers and select authors will read their pieces. We’re looking forward to seeing you there!

Gallery Night

Come view the Illumination Gallery at Open Book Cafe (first floor of College Library). There will be an informal reception Tuesday, Nov. 11 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. with apple cider and snacks. This is a sneak preview of some of the work featured in this semester’s journal!
